Windhoek, Namibia – Prominent member of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF), Michael Amushelelo, was arrested early this morning in connection with a protest held outside the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation in Windhoek last Friday.
Amushelelo, known for his outspoken stance on labor rights and youth unemployment. During his protest, he burned tired outside the ministry, calling for reforms and better conditions for workers.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the charges against Amushelelo, but his detainment has sparked a debate over the rights to free assembly and expression. In response, NEFF issued a statement condemning the arrest, arguing that it exemplifies a crackdown on political dissent and an attempt to silence voices fighting for worker rights.
More updates are expected as Amushelelo’s legal team plans to address the media later today.
