A tragic fire claimed the life of a 52-year-old man, Hendrick Gawiseb, after his shack caught fire in the early hours of the morning in Omdel, Henties Bay.
The fire broke out on Bless Bok Street while Gawiseb was asleep. Neighbors, upon noticing the flames, quickly alerted authorities and attempted to extinguish the fire. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to put out the blaze; however, the shack was already completely destroyed, and Gawiseb was found trapped inside.
Emergency services later recovered his body and transported it to the Swakopmund State Hospital mortuary for further examination. According to police reports, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities have stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage, no signs of foul play have been detected.
The victim’s family has been informed of the tragic incident, and investigations are ongoing.
