Analyst Says President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s Cabinet Surprised Many

University of Namibia lecturer and political analyst Gurvy Kavei says President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s new Cabinet was unexpected for many Namibians.

The president changed her Cabinet just a day after taking office. Some well-known ministers were left out, while others were given new roles in different departments.

Speaking to Nampa on Sunday, Kavei said many people had guessed who would be in the new Cabinet, but the final choices were surprising.

“No one expected this. Many people thought they knew who would be in the Cabinet, but the actual list was different,” he said.

Kavei believes the new ministers are capable of managing the country’s resources well. He also praised the Cabinet for including people from different regions and having a good balance of men and women. He called it the most fair Cabinet since Namibia became independent in 1990.

“I also like that there is a mix of young and experienced ministers. You cannot remove all the old ministers because some experience is needed,” he added.

He also praised the president for saving money by reducing the number of ministries from 21 to 14. He said previous governments tried but failed to do this.

However, he warned that combining ministries could cause problems. Some ministries might become too big, making it harder for ministers to manage their work. There could also be difficulties in running regional offices.
