Security Guard Bitten by Crocodile While Attempting to Take Photos in Omusati

A man believed to be a security guard at the NamWater offices in Epalela was bitten by a crocodile after sitting on the reptile to take pictures. The unusual incident took place earlier today at the Etaka Dam in the Onesi Constituency, Omusati Region.

Onesi councillor Festus Petrus confirmed the attack, stating that the man suffered a bite on his left arm. He was quickly transported to Outapi District Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene recounted how the man approached the crocodile, seemingly unaware of the danger, before sitting on its back in an apparent attempt to capture a photo. The reptile reacted instinctively, latching onto his arm before he managed to free himself.

The injured crocodile has since retreated into shallow waters near the banks of the dam, with concerned residents keeping a watchful eye to prevent its escape. Local authorities have not yet announced any plans to relocate the animal.

Crocodile encounters are not uncommon in Namibia’s water bodies, and officials continue to warn the public to exercise caution near these dangerous reptiles.
