41-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 41 Years for Raping and Murdering Girlfriend

Nowaseb

A Hardap region resident has been sentenced to an effective 41 years’ imprisonment for raping and murdering his girlfriend in 2020. Jeremias Nowaseb (41) received his sentence from Judge Dinnah Usiku in the High Court at the Windhoek Correctional Facility on Wednesday.

The court heard that Nowaseb committed the heinous crime against Christina Kooper (22) at Aranos on 31 October 2020. He assaulted, raped, and murdered her by throwing a 14.5-kilogram rock onto her head. A medical doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination detailed multiple head injuries, including a skull fracture, and testified that Kooper was struck with the rock at least five times.
Judge Usiku sentenced Nowaseb to 26 years’ imprisonment for murder and an additional 15 years for rape. The sentences are to be served consecutively, ensuring Nowaseb spends four decades behind bars.
The crime occurred after Nowaseb reportedly discovered Kooper had been intimate with another man. Before the incident, Nowaseb was employed as a part-time farmworker. He was found guilty on both charges in late September, leading to his sentencing this week.
