Man’s plan to kill son for insurance payout fail

Willem Kashava

A 51-year-old man named George Kashava was arrested in Windhoek on Monday for his plan to kill his son. George is hired individuals to murder his 29-year-old son to claim a substantial insurance payout of up to N$2 million.

It has been reported that George arranged for hired men to carry out the heinous act. However, these hired individuals, apparently uneasy about their assignment, chose to alert the authorities, cooperating with law enforcement to thwart this nefarious plan.
George Kashava had reportedly been closely monitoring his son’s movements and, at one point, provided information to the would-be killers regarding his son’s whereabouts. The plan was for them to kidnap him for a specific period before carrying out the murder.

Unknown to George, the hired men were already collaborating with the police. Law enforcement officers swiftly intervened, taking Willem, the son, under their protection. The hired men fed George false information, claiming that his son was being held captive and would be killed on an agreed-upon date.
During this time, George took the initiative to report his son as a missing person to the police. Unbeknownst to him, the police had already set up a fake murder scene as part of their operation, which they later used as evidence to convince George that the murder had occurred.

George assured the hired men that he would pay them once his insurance payout was processed by a local insurance company. In a bizarre twist, a few days later, George received an anonymous call informing him that a body resembling his son had been found in Windhoek. The caller claimed to have discovered the body due to a foul odor in the area.
George directed the police to the location that had been staged by law enforcement themselves, the same location that he had been informed was where the killing took place. It was at this moment that George was apprehended by the police on Monday.
Willem, the son, is now receiving counseling with the support of the police to help him cope with this traumatic experience. George Kashava appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, attempted murder, fraud, and obstructing the course of justice.
His case has been remanded to January 16, 2024, to allow for further investigations. The State prosecutor, Cuthbert Lusipani, has argued that it is in the public’s interest to keep George Kashava in police custody at the Windhoek Correctional Facility. This bizarre and disturbing case continues to unravel, leaving many in shock and disbelief.
