Founding President Sam Nujoma Hospitalized

Sam Nujoma

Namibia’s founding president, Dr. Sam Nujoma, has been hospitalized but is now in stable condition, his son Utoni Nujoma confirmed on Thursday evening.

Dr. Nujoma, 95, who led Namibia to independence in 1990 and served as the country’s first president, was admitted to a Windhoek hospital five to six days ago. While details surrounding his condition remain limited, Utoni Nujoma assured the public that his father is improving.

“Yes, it is true, my father has been admitted, but his personal doctor said he is improving, and that’s all I can say at this moment,” Utoni stated.

Efforts to obtain further details from Dr. Nujoma’s personal physician, Dr. Tshali Ithete, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to inquiries sent to him on Thursday.

Dr. Nujoma remains a towering figure in Namibia’s history, celebrated for his leadership during the liberation struggle and his role in shaping the nation’s post-independence trajectory. His hospitalization has sparked widespread concern among Namibians, with many taking to social media to express their support and prayers for his recovery.

The Namibian government has yet to issue an official statement, but sources indicate that President Nangolo Mbumba and other senior officials have been closely monitoring the situation.

As the nation awaits further updates, the focus remains on Dr. Nujoma’s recovery. His legacy as the father of the nation continues to resonate deeply with Namibians, and his health is a matter of national importance.

This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they become available.
