A tragic incident unfolded in Takarania, Mariental, on Friday, December 6, 2024, when a 36-year-old man, Brenden Stewe, lost his life while attempting to protect his mother-in-law from a knife-wielding attacker.
According to the weekend crime bulletin, the incident occurred between 17:00 and 18:00. It is reported that a 23-year-old man was arguing with his girlfriend and her family following a dispute sparked by an SMS the girlfriend had received.
As the argument escalated, the suspect allegedly threatened the girlfriend’s mother with a knife. Stewe intervened to protect her but was fatally stabbed in the upper right chest during the confrontation.
Stewe succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack. His next of kin have been informed.
The suspect was arrested on the scene, and police have launched an investigation into the case.
