The Ministry of Health and Social Services has strongly refuted recent media allegations suggesting critical shortages of medicines and essential medical supplies at Rundu Intermediate Hospital. This comes after reports claimed that some patients were being referred to private pharmacies due to unavailable stock at the hospital.
In a media release issued by the Office of the Executive Director, the Ministry emphasized that the hospital pharmacy has verifiably confirmed the availability of essential supplies, including malaria test kits and dressing materials. “Medicines are stored appropriately and dispensed to patients accordingly,” the statement read, countering claims of inadequate supply and stock mismanagement.
While the Ministry reaffirmed the hospital’s capacity to meet patient needs, it acknowledged receiving reports of specific cases where individuals may have been referred to private facilities. “In the presence of verifiable evidence of stock unavailability, internal investigation will be undertaken to assess the veracity of these claims,” the Ministry stated, adding that necessary administrative actions will follow should these claims be substantiated.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continuous improvement of healthcare service delivery. Members of the public are encouraged to contact the Public Relations Office for any inquiries or clarification regarding the matter.
