President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Wednesday announced the appointment of Inge Zaamwani as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Land Reform. The announcement, made at State House, follows Zaamwani’s recent swearing-in as a non-voting member of the National Assembly.
Zaamwani replaces McAlbert Hengari, who is currently in custody facing allegations of attempting to bribe a rape victim—a development that triggered swift leadership changes within the cabinet.
Prior to her new role, Zaamwani served as the presidential advisor on constitutional affairs and private sector interface. In her recent public remarks, she emphasized the urgent need for political parties to improve their commitment to gender equality, noting with concern the decline in female representation in Parliament.
Her appointment is widely viewed as both a strategic political move and a symbolic effort to reinforce the president’s commitment to gender balance and integrity in public office.
